For nearly 100 years, Weis Markets and its associates have worked hard to offer their customers the best combination of value, quality and service.

Harry and Sigmund Weis founded Weis Markets in 1912, when they opened a small neighborhood store known as Weis Pure Foods on Market Street in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

Today, Harry’s son, Robert, and his grandson, Jonathan, oversee a company with stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.  Overall, we employ more than 18,000 associates in our stores, distribution center, corporate office and manufacturing facilities.

Built on self reliance, we process our own milk and use the excess butterfat to make our Weis Quality Ice Cream – 50 flavors and growing!  We are also proud to support local farmers.  In Pennsylvania alone, we annually buy more than 20 million pounds of locally grown produce and we also purchase local produce in all of the states where we have stores.  We are also proud of our Pennsylvania Proud Choice Angus Beef program – one of the few local beef programs available in supermarkets.

Our company and associates are committed to being good neighbors.  Each year, we support local food banks and food pantries through our Fight Hunger program which generates hundreds of thousands of meals for people in need.  We also donate to community-based health care organizations, focusing on charitable and clinic programs benefiting women’s health care, mammography screening and pediatric programs.

We are also committed to reducing our environmental impact.  We are a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Chill program.  Throughout our company, we are installing energy efficient equipment and systems in our stores.  We are also long-time proponents of recycling.  In a given year, we recycle more than 23,000 tons of cardboard, 750 tons of plastic and 329 tons of paper.
