Weis Markets Presents $40,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank

(Allentown, PA) – Weis Markets today presented a corporate donation of $40,000 in Weis gift cards to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania. It is making this donation as part of its Fight Hunger program, which generates donations for local food banks, pantries and community food programs throughout its five state market area.
The donation was made at Weis Markets’ South Cedar Crest Boulevard store in Allentown.
“Second Harvest will use our donation to support its Backpack Buddy program, which helps food insecure children and its Cooking Matters program, which offers cooking-centered, interactive programming to teach its clients to prepare healthy meals using the food commonly found in food pantries,” said Dennis Curtin, Weis Markets Spokesman. “We would also like to thank our customers for making $30,000 in additional product and monetary donations to local food pantries and food banks in Second Harvest’s six county service area. Our combined donations are expected to generate an estimated 56,000 meals in these communities. ”
Second Harvest serves approximately 200 local food agencies in Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Wayne and Pike Counties. Weis Markets operates 24 stores in this region.
