A night at the grocery store never seemed as mystifying as it did on Monday, Sept. 26.
Eleven snacking sleuths from Cub Scout Wolf Den Pack 232 out of Gate of Heaven Church crept through aisles with a magnifying glass in search of sustenance during a Mystery Tour at Weis Markets in Dallas.

Several third and fourth grade students from the Howard Gardner School answered the question “Where’s the missing energy?”March 2 during their nutritional “Mystery Tour” of Weis Market, 1020 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit. Students venture into supermarket aisles in search of clues to solve the “Case of the Missing Energy.” The tour is one of many that Weis plans to run. The program launched September 2010 and 3,000 kids have attended.

A 20 oz. bottle emptied of the soda it once contained was almost halfway full of 10 teaspoons of sugar, showing the students from Gerstell Academy exactly how much they would ingest by drinking the beverage.

Weis Markets today announced the introduction of Weis Mystery Tours™, a new field trip program that will help 3rd and 4th graders learn about the fundamentals of nutrition in Weis Markets’ stores. During a 90-minute tour, students play the role of Weis Detectives searching the store for clues to solve the Case of the Missing Energy.

Peaking out from under an orange detective hat, 8-year-old David Trimmer was ready to crack the case.
He trekked around the Weis Markets in Windsor Township on a recent Thursday morning, looking for clues on nutrition labels to solve the case of the missing energy of fictional character N.R. Getic George, who has been falling asleep in class.
