Weis Markets Announces Flu Shot Program
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
(Sunbury, PA) – Weis Markets today announced it would begin offering flu shots in its in-store pharmacies starting this week. The shots will be administered by its trained and certified pharmacist immunizers through the company’s WEISCARE Adult Immunization Services program.
The shots are available at Weis Markets’ 120 in-store pharmacies and are available to persons 18 or older. For most senior citizens, flu shots are covered by Medicare part B and D. Flu shots are also covered by many private prescription insurance plans. Flu shot recipient will also receive a money-saving coupon booklet valued at $37.
“With our certified pharmacist immunizers, it has never been easier to get a flu shot in a Weis Markets’ store – walk up immunizations are now available in our pharmacies and we’re also offering our WEISCARE Adult Immunization services to businesses and senior centers in the communities that we serve.” said Jeff Maltese, Weis Markets’ Vice President, Pharmacy.
Weis Markets pharmacies also offer immunization services for pneumonia, shingles, meningitis, tetanus/Diptheria/Whooping cough and Hepatitis A&B per state regulation.
Later in the fall, Weis Markets will also host 65 flu-shot clinics in its stores. When the schedule is finalized, specific dates and times for each flu-shot clinic location will be available at weismarkets.com, as are the locations for WEISCARE Adult Immunization services, which are available by appointment and as a walk in service.
Each year 10 to 20 percent of Americans contract the flu, with 200,000 requiring hospitalization. Flu-shots help protect most people from the flu and minimize complications for others.

- Individuals suffering from severe anemia
- Healthcare providers who come into contact with infected people
