Produce department offering over 15 varieties of grapes

Sunbury, PA (August 30, 2022) – Weis Markets today announced the launch of its second annual Great Grape Event, which offers customers over 15 varieties of grapes grown in California and the American South. The program starts on August 25 and runs through September.

“The typical American supermarket sells five varieties of grapes, but since it’s the best time of year for grapes, we have decided to offer our customers increased variety, including Sweet Sapphires, Razzles, Dazzles and Scuppernongs,” said Weis Markets Director of Produce Kevin Weaver. “These are some of the best grapes you never tasted.”

During the Great Grape Event of 2022, Weis Markets produce departments will sell:

Razzle Red Seedless Grapes: Grown in California’s San Joaquin Valley, these grapes taste like candy – but they’re good for you.

Dazzle Green Seedless Grapes: Grown by fifth generation farmers in California, these high-quality grapes have great sugar content which enhances flavor.

Kissy Pop Grapes: A sweet, red seedless grape, this variety is similar to Cotton Candy grapes but with a lighter flavor.

Candy Snap Grapes: This dark red grape has a fruity, sweet, and subtly tart taste.

Black Seedless Grapes: Known for their deep, velvety color and sweet, juicy flavor, these grapes are packed with antioxidants.

Concord Grapes: Named after the Massachusetts town where they were first grown, these grapes are excellent for pies, jams, jellies and, of course, fresh eating.

Red Globe Grapes: Grown in California, these have a sweet, tangy flavor and are packed with nutrients that help improve immunity, skin and hair health, and bone strength.

Muscadine/Scuppernong Grapes: A large variety of muscadine, a species of grape native to the southern United States, is usually a greenish or bronze color, seedless and similar in appearance and texture to a white grape. They’re larger than most grapes with a slightly tart flavor. These are the best grapes you’ve never tasted.

Candy Heart Grapes: Cotton Candy’s first cousin, this red grape has a rich flavor and caramel notes.

Candy Dream Grapes: A black seedless grape with a deep, jammy flavor.

Sweet Sapphire Grapes: Usually grown in Australia, this California-grown grape is a sweet, seedless black grape with a unique tubular shape and green, translucent flesh.

In addition to these varieties, Weis Markets will also carry organic red, green and black seedless grapes as well as a mixed bag of Razzle Red Seedless and Dazzle Green Seedless grapes.
