WEIS MARKETS ANNOUNCES LOCAL HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
Food Drive will benefit more than 150 local hunger organizations
Sunbury, PA (December 13, 2019) – Weis Markets today announced it has launched a food drive in all its stores to benefit more than 150 local food banks and pantries. The program will run through January 1.
During this drive, customers will have the opportunity to donate non-perishable food products including food bank staples such as: canned fruits and vegetables; canned tuna, turkey and chicken; whole wheat cereals; peanut and almond butter; rice and pasta; and shelf-stable soups and stews. Customers will also have the option to donate one dollar or the amount of their choice at checkout.
“Today one in ten Americans, half of whom are children, live in a food insecure household. That’s why we are finishing up the year strong with our Local Holiday Food Drive,” said Ron Bonacci, Weis Markets Vice President of Advertising and Marketing. “Throughout the month of December, we have been donating to local food banks where our associates have also volunteered. A food drive will generate additional food donations during a challenging time of the year.”
This food drive caps off a month of charitable giving for the company, which kicked off during the National Day of Giving on December 3, when Weis joined with customers to raise funds for local nonprofits, chosen by associates in each store. Weis also made more than $40,000 in corporate donations and volunteered more than 300 hours throughout the month at food banks in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York.
