Donation generated through in-store fundraising campaign in February and a company contribution.
SUNBURY, PA (April 4, 2024) – Weis Markets today announced it has donated $175,000 to the American Heart Association's Life is Why program, a movement supporting the Association’s life-saving heart and brain health mission. This donation was generated through in-store customer donations in February and a company contribution.
This year, the American Heart Association is celebrating 100 years of building longer, healthier lives with the help of volunteers, supporters and collaborating organizations. The AHA has invested more than $5 billion in research, making them the largest not-for-profit funding source for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease research next to the federal government.
“Weis Markets is honored to help contribute to the American Heart Association’s work of inspiring consumers to make their health a priority and we celebrate their 100 years of focusing on this mission,” said Weis Markets Vice President of Marketing and Advertising Maria Rizzo. “Their life-saving work has impacted those in the communities we serve, and we applaud each and every member of their organization for their devotion to fighting heart disease and stroke.”
“Donations through the Life is Why campaign – no matter the amount – allow the Association to fund research that can improve the health outcomes of heart and stroke patients, train thousands of people to save lives using CPR in our communities every year, and make it possible for more people to live longer, healthier lives,” said Ashley Schade, region senior vice president for development and community health at the American Heart Association. “The funds raised by Life is Why retailers and their customers are critical as the Association moves into its second century and strengthens its commitment to advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.”
