Retailer has donated more than $6 million to local and regional hunger relief organizations

Sunbury, PA (September 8, 2023) – Weis Markets today announced it has launched its 16th annual Fight Hunger in-store donation program in support of regional food banks in its seven-state market area. Since the launch of the Fight Hunger program in 2008, Weis Markets has raised and donated more than $6 million for local and regional hunger relief organizations.

Throughout Hunger Action Month in September, customers can round-up their grocery orders to the next dollar, donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout or give online via PayPal at WeisMarkets.com to support their neighbors in need. At the end of the program, Weis Markets will supplement customer donations with a corporate contribution and distribute funds to regional food banks to maximize the impact of the donations in the fight against food insecurity.

“We’re in the grocery business, so we know how important it is for members of our communities to put food on the table every day,” said Weis Markets Vice President of Marketing and Advertising Maria Rizzo. “The Fight Hunger program offers our customers a convenient way to join us in addressing hunger in the communities where we live and work by supporting the regional hunger relief organizations that are on the forefront of fighting food insecurity throughout our seven-state market area.”

Weis Markets’ Fight Hunger campaign works with regional food banks throughout its seven-state market area, including: The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast PA; The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (Harrisburg and Williamsport, PA); Helping Harvest (Reading, PA); The Maryland Food Bank; The Commission on Economic Opportunity/The Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA); Philabundance (Montgomery and Bucks counties, PA); Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW)/Broome County Council of Churches; Food Bank of the Southern Tier (Elmira, NY); Community Food Bank of New Jersey; Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (VA); Food Bank of Delaware; and Mountaineer Food Bank (West Virginia).

These food banks help coordinate the program with local food pantries near each Weis store.
