Weis Markets re-opens store in Gap, PA

The company celebrates the grand re-opening of its store, which had been closed due to a fire since November 2019

Sunbury, PA (April 22, 2021) Weis Markets today announced its Gap, PA, store re-opened on Thursday, April 22. The 46,500 square-foot store, located on Lincoln Highway in Gap, employs more than 110 full- and part-time associates, many of whom worked in the store prior to the fire.

The re-opened store has a larger produce department, a new meal solution center, new décor and exterior, increased variety in the natural and organic sections, a larger pharmacy with consult room, and Weis 2 Go Online ordering with curbside pickup. All checkout lanes are either self-checkout or dual use, meaning they can be manned by cashiers during busy times and turned into self-checkout lanes during less busy times.

“We’re delighted to announce that our Gap store is open again, and we are back to serving our community,” said Jonathan Weis, Weis Markets Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “It took a lot of hard work to re-open this store after the fire last November. We’re extremely grateful to the 19 fire companies who supported us when the fire broke out, and the store team and the local community who helped Weis Markets return to Gap.”

The store offers Weis 2 Go Online ordering with curbside pick-up and delivery, through which customers can order online and have their groceries handpicked by trained personal shoppers for pick-up or home delivery. With this offering, customers can use their Weis Preferred Shopper cards to save on their orders and earn rewards on gas and private brand products, and they can also browse the weekly online circular and add sale items to their carts.

The store’s sustainability features include:

·      Energy efficient LED lighting in the store’s sales area, refrigerated cases, backroom, prep areas, walk-in coolers, freezers, and parking lot.

·      Glycol secondary refrigeration combined with low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant to increase energy efficiency and reduce refrigerant use.

·      Enrollment in the Organix Recycling, LLC food diversion program, in which the waste from food prep is repurposed for cattle feed.

·      Cardboard and plastic recycling.

·      High-efficiency water fixtures.

Gap customers will also benefit from Weis’ Low, Low Prices program, which launched in 2019 and lowered the prices on more than 7,000 products to offer the lowest everyday price in the market. The multi-million-dollar investment in low prices is the company’s most ambitious price reduction program to date.
