Customer, corporate and vendor donations during National Pet Month benefit 120 local pet shelters and rescue groups
Sunbury, PA (June 22, 2023) – Weis Markets today announced its stores raised $251,000 for more than 120 local pet shelters and rescue organizations during its 15th annual Paws for Pets program.
This total includes customer donations, a Weis Markets corporate contribution, and matching donations from Rachael Ray Nutrish, Nestlé-Purina PetCare Company, The Clorox Company and Blue Buffalo
Throughout the four-week program, which took place during National Pet Month in May, customers generously donated at self-checkouts by rounding up their purchases or donating $1, $3, $5 or $10. All proceeds were donated to pet shelters and rescue organizations selected by individual stores.
“We’re grateful to our customers, associates and vendors for their continued support of 120 local pet rescue organizations through the Paws for Pets program,” said Weis Markets Vice President of Marketing and Advertising Maria Rizzo, “Since 2009, we’ve worked with our customers to donate more than $3 million to these organizations. These donations provide crucial support during a time of tight budgets, increased costs and record demand.”
Weis Markets’ store in Westminster, Maryland, raised a company high $4,804 for nearby Carroll County Animal Rescue, while its store on Simpson Ferry Road in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, raised $3,412 for Speranza Animal Rescue, also in Mechanicsburg. Its store in Brunswick, Maryland, raised $2,443 for Purr Heaven in Rohrersville, Maryland.
