Customer generosity benefits 120 local pet shelters and rescue groups

Sunbury, PA (June 10, 2022) – Weis Markets today announced its stores raised $309,000 for more than 120 local pet shelters and rescue organizations during its fourteenth annual Paws for Pets program.

During the four-week program in May, customers generously donated at self- and full-service checkouts by rounding up their purchases or donating $1, $3, $5 or $10. All proceeds were donated to pet shelters and rescue organizations selected by individual stores.

“We’re grateful to our customers and associates for their continued support of local pet organizations in the communities we serve,” said Ron Bonacci, Weis Markets Vice President of Advertising and Marketing. “Since 2009, they’ve donated $2.8 million to local pet shelters and rescue organizations that have worked with us for many years. These donations provide much needed support during a time of tight budgets and growing demand.”

Weis Markets’ store on Stony Battery Road in Lancaster raised a company high $6,830 for the Pet Pantry of Lancaster County, while its store in Tannersville, PA, raised $5,441 for the Animal Welfare Society of Monroe County. Its store in Westminster, MD, raised $4,198 for the Carroll County Humane Society.
